Tournament Guidelines

The MHCC reserves the right to amend play times of 1st Round, SF and Finals; if deemed necessary
The MHC Twenty20 - 2012 will be contested by 8 Ladies and 12 boy's teams.

The first round of the tournament will be played on 3 league groups (C,D,E) for boys and (A,B) league group for ladies basis. Every team will play once against all other teams in their respective groups. (One team will have a total of 3 matches in the league stage)

Points will be allocated for each match in accordance with the system described in clause 21.10 of these playing conditions, which will apply throughout the competition. The boy's league the top 3 teams and best losers (NRR will apply) as per the points standings at the end of the league stage, will progress to the semifinals, Ladies league top two teams of their respective groups will qualify for semi- finals.

Where the team placed first in the league will play against the team placed fourth place. (NNR will apply for standings)

The team placed at the second will play against the team placed third in the league. (NNR will apply for standings)
The winners of the semi-finals will contest the Final.

21.10 Points
The following points system will apply:

Win 2
No result 1
Loss 0
(Note: see also 21.5)

21.10.1 League Stage
In the event of teams finishing on equal points in the league, the right to play in the semi-final will be decided in the following order of priority:

The team with the more wins in the League stage will be placed in the higher position. If there are teams with equal points and equal wins in the League stage then in such case the team with the higher net run rate in the League stage will be placed in the higher position (refer to clause 21.10.5 below for the calculation of net run rate).

If still equal, the team which was the winner of the head to head match played between them will be placed in the higher position. In the highly unlikely event that teams cannot be separated by the above this will be done by drawing lots.

If all matches within the League stage are a no result, the above sequence will apply.

21.10.2 Semi Final
If a semi-final is tied, the teams shall compete in a one over per side eliminator to determine which team progresses to the Final. Refer attached Appendix 7.

If following a tie, weather conditions prevent the one over per side eliminator from being completed, or if the match is a no result, then the team which progresses to the Final shall be determined as follows:

The team with more wins in all previous matches (League stage).

If still equal, the team with the higher net run rate in all previous matches (League stage) in which results are achieved.

If still equal, by drawing lots.

21.10.3 Final
In the event of a tied Final, the teams shall compete in a one over per side eliminator to determine which team is the winner. Refer attached Appendix 7. If weather conditions prevent the one over eliminator from being completed, the teams shall be declared joint winners.

21.10.4 Net Run Rate
A team's net run rate is calculated by deducting from the average runs per over scored by that team throughout the relevant portion of the competition, the average runs per over scored against that team throughout the relevant portion of the competition.

Note: net run rate is not applied to the one over per side eliminator. In the event of a team being all out in less than its full quota of overs, the calculation of the net run rate of both teams shall be based on the full quota of overs to which the batting team would have been entitled and not on the number of overs in which the team was dismissed.

Only those matches where results are achieved will count for the purpose of net run rate calculations. Where a match is abandoned, but a result is achieved under Duckworth/Lewis, for net run rate purposes Team 1 will be accredited with Team 2's Par Score on abandonment off the same number of overs faced by Team 2. Where a match is concluded but with Duckworth/Lewis having been applied at an earlier point in the match, Team 1 will be accredited with 1 run less than the final Target Score for Team 2 off the total number of overs allocated to Team 2 to reach the target.

In circumstances where a match (and the points for such match) is awarded to a team as a result of the other team's refusal to play, either by the match referee in accordance with Law 21.3 (a)(ii) as read with playing condition 21.3 or in accordance with the provisions of the relevant event agreements signed by the participating teams, the net run rate of the defaulting team shall be affected in that the full 20 overs of the defaulting team's innings in such forfeited match shall be taken into account in calculating the average runs per over of the defaulting team over the course of the relevant portion of the competition. For the avoidance of doubt the runs scored and overs bowled in such forfeited match will not be taken into account when calculating the net run rate of the team to whom the match was awarded.

2012 Harmony Cup

The Foundation of Goodness and Red Dot Tours augmented its first Murali Cup in July 2011 as an international schools' fund-raising cricket tournament to involve 5 international school teams and 3 sponsored underprivileged Sri Lankan school sides personally invited by Sri Lankan cricketers and Foundation of Goodness trustees Muttiah Muralitharan and Kumar Sangakkara, as well as Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene on behalf of the Mahela Foundation.

Thanks to the success of the 2011 edition and with the compassionate support of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Indian Ocean Disaster Relief charity (IODR) and other commercial and private fund-raising efforts, the tournament committee are proud to announce a 20 team Murali Harmony Cup T20 tournament between 7th to 12th September 2012 ahead of ICC World T20 in Sri Lanka.

This pioneering event has immense potential for both creating goodwill and helping community building, as well as providing a catalyst for much-needed cricket development in the under-resourced schools of the war-affected northern and eastern provinces of Sri Lanka, and benefits from the generous logistical support of the Sri Lanka Army.

Summary

The tournament invites 12 Under 19's schoolboy teams to represent regions of Sri Lanka including Central, Kandy, Western, Southern, Ambalangoda Wayamba, Kurunegala North Central and Hambantota districts, selected in recognition of outstanding performances in schools' T20 cricket.

These schools will compete with combined schools' squads from Jaffna, Mannar/Vavuniya combined, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee/Batticaloa combined and the Foundation of Goodness Seenigama Academy, which all receive regular specialist coaching clinics leading up to the event.

To reflect the ICC World T20 model and in recognition of the rapid development of the world women's game, the event includes 8 Under 23's women's clubs from the Foundation of Goodness' own Seenigama Academy, Sri Lanka Army, Anuradhapura, Colombo, Kurunegala, Sri Lanka Air Force, as well as combined squads from Northern and Eastern Provinces.

All matches are played at 5 post-conflict school venues across Sri Lanka's northern regions of Mankulam, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu; especially redeveloped prior to the tournament. All participating teams also benefit from a masterclass coaching session given by a hand-pick of the current international stars of Sri Lanka Cricket.
